Online Therapy for Women Over 40 in Indiana
You don’t have to drive anywhere. Real support, from wherever you are in Indiana.
There’s a particular kind of quiet strength that Midwestern women carry – the “I’ll be fine, I always figure it out” kind of resilience that gets you through hard things. I admire that. And also, sometimes, this keeps strong women from asking for help and leaves them feeling isolated. If you’ve been white-knuckling it through a divorce, a faith crisis, an empty house, or a body that feels unfamiliar, I honor that resilience AND I want you to know you don’t have to keep doing it alone.
I’m Shannan Blum, LMFT – an Indiana-licensed therapist offering virtual therapy for women over 40 across the state. I’ve lived in Indy for a while now, and am no stranger to the Midwestern mentality having lived and raised some of my kids in Ohio. I understand the particular textures of this region: the faith communities, the family systems, the moral imperative of self-sufficiency, and the deep capacity for growth that lives underneath all of it.
What I Help Indiana Women Work Through
The women I work with in Indiana are often managing things that overlap and compound each other – a faith unraveling at the same time as a marriage ending, menopause hitting in the middle of an empty nest, years of self-silencing finally demanding a reckoning. Here’s what I specialize in:
Religious trauma and faith deconstruction – Indiana has deep roots in religious communities, and leaving one (or staying in one that’s hurting you) carries a specific kind of grief and complexity. I understand it from both a clinical and personal level and can support you if you’re deconstructing this.
Menopause and perimenopause – the hormonal and psychological dimensions of midlife transition are real, significant, and wildly underaddressed in most therapy offices. Not here. I’ve experienced it, it’s no joke, and I’ll support you through it.
Divorce, empty nesting, and major life transitions – the moments when the life you built no longer fits, and you’re not sure yet what comes next.
Somatic psychotherapy – body-based healing that works exceptionally well in virtual settings. Your nervous system doesn’t need you to be in the same room as me to do this work.
Inner child and attachment healing – for the patterns that started long before any of the current upheaval, and that keep showing up no matter how much you understand them intellectually.
Jungian depth psychology and archetypal work – for women who want to go deeper than symptoms and understand the larger story their life is telling.
Why Virtual Therapy Works for Indiana Women
Indiana is a big state with a lot of distance between cities, and not every community has easy access to therapists who specialize in the kind of depth work I do. Virtual therapy removes that barrier entirely. Whether you’re in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Bloomington, South Bend, Evansville, or a small town an hour from the nearest therapist who gets this kind of work – we can work together.
There’s also something to be said for the privacy of doing therapy from the comfort of your own home. In smaller communities especially, walking into a therapist’s office means running into people you know. Online sessions let you do serious, meaningful work without the small-town visibility you might not want.
All sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. No commute, no waiting room, no explaining yourself to a front desk.
My Approach: Integrated, Body-Based, and Honest
I call the work I do an “Integrated Clinical Framework” – which means I blend evidence-based tools (CBT, DBT, trauma processing) with somatic approaches, inner child work, Jungian depth psychology, and non-religious spiritual practices. In sessions, Idon’t pick one lane and stay in it. I use what actually works for you.
I’m direct, warm, occasionally irreverent, and I’ve done my own work. I know what it is to rebuild after significant loss. That’s not a liability in a therapist – it’s what makes this real.
Sessions are 55 minutes, fully virtual, $180 self-pay. I do not accept insurance.
