Online Therapy for Women Over 40 in Texas
Texas is big. Your healing doesn’t have to wait for the right zip code.
Texas women are no strangers to doing hard things. But major upheavals – a marriage ending, a faith unraveling, a body changing, children leaving the house – these deserve more than just grit and endurance. They deserve real support from someone whose been there and won’t flinch at the complicated parts. Virtual therapy makes hard things easier.
I’m Shannan Blum, LMFT – licensed in Texas and offering virtual therapy for women over 40 across the state. My work is integrative, body-informed, and unapologetically honest. I’m not here to tell you what you should feel or what to do. I’m here to help you figure out what feels most true and most yours.
What I Help Texas Women Work Through
Texas has a particular landscape when it comes to the issues I work with – large, tight-knit faith communities, strong cultural expectations around family roles and female endurance, and vast rural areas where specialty therapy can be genuinely hard to access. The women I work with here are often navigating:
Religious trauma and spiritual abuse recovery – including deconstruction from high-control or fundamentalist backgrounds. Texas has no shortage of women who were raised in environments that shaped their sense of self around compliance, and who are now doing the complicated work of figuring out who they are without those structures.
Menopause and perimenopause – the psychological dimensions of this transition are real and significant. Anxiety, depression, rage, sleep disruption, identity questions – these aren’t just hormonal inconveniences. They deserve relatability and serious, skilled support.
Divorce, empty nesting, and identity reconstruction – the transitions that arrive when the life you built no longer fits, and you’re standing in the gap between what was and what’s next.
Somatic psychotherapy – body-based healing for trauma, anxiety, and the physical patterns that talking alone can’t always shift.
Inner child and attachment healing – for the relational patterns that started before the current chapter, and that keep showing up in your closest relationships.
Jungian depth psychology and archetypal work – for women who want to understand the deeper story, not just manage the symptoms.
Why Virtual Therapy Works Across Texas
Texas geography makes access to specialized therapy genuinely unequal. If you’re in Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio, you have options. If you’re in a smaller community like Lubbock, Amarillo, a ranch town hours from the nearest city – quality depth-focused therapy may not be locally available at all. Virtual sessions change that.
Even in major cities, virtual therapy removes the commute, the scheduling friction, and in some communities, the visibility of walking into a therapist’s office. You do serious, meaningful work from the privacy of your own home.
All sessions are via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. My practice in Texas is overseen by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC): bhec.texas.gov.
My Approach: Integrated, Body-Based, and Honest
I pull from somatic therapy, Jungian depth work, inner child approaches, CBT, and DBT — whatever is most useful for you, not whatever fits a rigid protocol. I’m direct, warm, and I’ve done my own significant healing work. I’m not going to ask you to perform okayness in my office. Bring what’s actually happening.
Sessions are 55 minutes, fully virtual, $180 self-pay. I do not accept insurance.
